Solvency II TPT Reporting Guide: Controls, Data Quality and V8 Readiness.

Published July 19, 20264-minute readBy Cyril Sayada

Move TPT reporting from recurring spreadsheet repair to a controlled data-exchange process with clear lineage, validation, exceptions, ownership and change governance.

Direct answer: the Tripartite Template is a widely used European data-exchange format for asset managers to provide granular portfolio data to insurers for Solvency II reporting and risk calculations. FinDatEx lists TPT V7 as the current published version and opened consultation on draft TPT V8 on July 7, 2026.

What the TPT is—and is not

Regulatory fact: FinDatEx describes the TPT as a widely used template supporting asset-data exchange between asset managers and insurers. Editorial interpretation: a TPT process should be governed like a recurring regulatory data product. Product capability: Sia RegAI can support change, control and evidence mapping around that process; it is not represented here as a TPT generation engine.

The TPT does not replace an insurer’s Solvency II reporting responsibility, capital model, QRT production or validation. It supplies granular asset data that may feed downstream classification, look-through, concentration, market-risk and reporting processes.

Operating-model flow

StageCore activityControl objectiveEvidence
1. SourceExtract positions, instruments, issuers, transactions and reference data from controlled systems.Complete and authorised population for the reporting date.Source-system report, extract parameters, reconciliation total
2. TransformMap source fields to the TPT data dictionary and apply classifications or enrichment.Repeatable rules, version control and traceable data lineage.Mapping specification, code version, change approval
3. ValidateRun format, mandatory-field, code-list, cross-field and portfolio reasonableness checks.Detect defects before delivery and distinguish warnings from blockers.Validation log, rejected records, rule catalogue
4. ResolveAssign exceptions to data owners, record rationale and re-run affected checks. No silent overrides; material exceptions receive review.Issue record, owner response, approval, residual-risk note
5. ReconcileReconcile record counts, market value, currency and portfolio totals to controlled sources.Demonstrate completeness and prevent unexplained drift.Signed reconciliation and threshold exceptions
6. DeliverPackage, approve and transmit the template through the agreed channel.Correct recipient, reporting date, format and approved version.Approval record, checksum, transmission receipt
7. RetainRetain the input, mapping, output, exceptions and approval history.Reproduce what was delivered and why.Immutable archive and retrieval test

Minimum data-quality control set

ControlTestEscalation trigger
Population completenessRecord and value totals reconcile to the agreed portfolio perimeter.Unexplained difference above the documented threshold
Mandatory fieldsRequired fields are populated for the applicable instrument and fund type.Any blocker or repeated warning for a material holding
Identifier integrityIdentifiers have the correct format and resolve consistently across sources.Missing or conflicting instrument, issuer, fund or counterparty identifier
Code-list validityValues match the controlled TPT version’s allowable codes.Unknown or deprecated code
Cross-field consistencyRelated fields produce a coherent instrument, currency, maturity and exposure profile.Logical contradiction or outlier outside tolerance
Look-through coverageCoverage and fallback treatment are measured for collective investments.Coverage below the approved threshold or unsupported fallback
Period-on-period movementMaterial field, count and value movements are explained.Unexpected change without a business event or approved mapping change
Version controlInput dictionary, mapping and output use the approved TPT version.Mixed versions or unapproved production change

Prepare for draft TPT V8 without implementing a draft as final

FinDatEx opened the TPT V8 consultation on July 7, 2026. Its announcement says the draft aims to reflect the Solvency II 2020 Review and simplification work, with two new data points, stronger issuer identification and twenty deleted data points. Because consultation can change the final specification, the right response is impact analysis—not premature production conversion.

  1. Freeze the V7 production dictionary, mappings and validation rules as the current controlled baseline.
  2. Record the V8 consultation document as a proposed source with status, owner and response deadline.
  3. Diff each added, changed and deleted field against source systems, transformations, controls and consumers.
  4. Identify issuer-data gaps and external enrichment dependencies.
  5. Estimate parallel-run, counterparty-testing and cutover needs for the Q1 2027 target described by FinDatEx.
  6. Update the plan when FinDatEx publishes the final version; do not label draft fields as mandatory before then.

Buyer and implementation checklist

Where Sia RegAI fits

Sia RegAI is not presented as a TPT file generator, portfolio-accounting system, actuarial model or QRT engine. Where product fit is confirmed, RegReview can track a FinDatEx or regulatory source and route a version change, while RegMatcher can connect the affected requirement or data expectation to mappings, controls, owners, evidence and remediation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Solvency II TPT?

The Tripartite Template is a widely used European data-exchange template for asset managers to provide granular asset data to insurers in support of Solvency II reporting and risk calculations.

Is TPT V8 final?

No. FinDatEx launched a public consultation on draft TPT V8 on July 7, 2026. Teams should not treat the draft as a final production specification.

Does Sia RegAI generate TPT files?

No product claim is made that Sia RegAI generates or validates TPT files. It can support the regulatory-change, control, ownership and evidence workflow around a TPT operating model.
